Embrace Your Self-Care

About Pollock Coaching

I really do understand what you are feeling right now...honestly I do! Your diagnosis does not define you; it may actually make you stronger. I am a huge advocate for mental health. I see opportunity in everyone and I help reframe comments like “I can’t” or "I don't know how". As a Recreation Therapist, my role was to advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves and help them create opportunities they would never have created themselves.  Being the wife of a First Responder with PTSD has stretched me in ways I never thought possible. I have persevered and not given up hope to help my husband with his recovery.  I have learned through this experience

to embrace my own self-care and practice self-care daily.  What does self-care look like to you?

I understand what you want! You want to take control of your own self-care because you now realize no one else will do it for you! I use person centered and strength based approaches that

create an environment of truth, compassion, and trust.

It feeds my soul when I get the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience. Let me show you a way to develop important self-care practices by learning about your strengths,  sharing leisure opportunities rich in meaningful experiences and backed by evidence-based practice in mental health advocacy.

My Why!

I do what I do because I believe our First Responders need their spouses more than they realize.  Unfortunately, the spouse is the last one that they communicate with.  Spouses of first responders are the silent heroes who do their best to validate feelings and be the safe space for emotional expression when work culture frowns upon it.  The reality is that we end up frustrated and isolated because we don’t know how to reach them emotionally and as a result our mental health suffers and our marriages fail to thrive.  Post-Traumatic Stress Injury is real and can affect the spouse as well.  It is not a sign of weakness, but actually shows strength and resilience. With the ability to focus on your own self-care you can continue to advocate for the mental health of your First Responder and their recovery.

Through 1:1 Coaching I can help you:

1. Understand psychoeducation by defining what PTSD/I is so you have a better understanding of what your First Responder is going through and what you may be experiencing as well.

2. Advocacy for PTSD/I awareness within the first responder service, community and family.  We need to start talking about it!

3. Support by providing 1:1 coaching in a safe and non-judgemental environment where you can express yourself freely, share your frustrations and be validated by someone who truly understands your situation.

4. Action by creating self-care techniques based on evidence-based Therapeutic Recreation practices that have been proven to help using a strength-based approach.  Offer resources that maybe helpful on topics such as relationship building, learning about PTSD and leisure counselling.

5. Share communication techniques that can helped transform your marriage from surviving to thriving. Techniqes including person-centred relationships, active-listening techniques and the IMAGO technique.
